Dirk Janssen

For nearly 50 years, I have been building a vast range of stringed instruments such as guitars and lutes.

My journey began in 1975 in Idstein, Germany, where I apprenticed under master luthier Reinhold Seiffert and earned the professional “Zupfinstrumentmacher” diploma. After completing my training, I returned to the Netherlands in 1977 and later settled in Belgium, where I continue to practice my craft near to the Dutch/Belgium border.

I specialize in classical guitars but also enjoy building flamenco guitars, romantic and baroque guitars, as well as renaissance and baroque lutes.

Inspired by the great masters—Torres, Ramirez, Friedrich, Contreras—I continually seek the best balance, projection, tonal clarity and timbre in my instruments.

Durability and precision are essential in my work, as is the care and dedication that go into every detail.

It would be a pleasure to share my instruments and the stories behind them with you at the Groningen Guitar Festival!
